Description
Hi, we are two musicians who are actively studying jazz manouche together (we're taking lessons together on guitar, but I'm also a very capable double-bassist and a functional violinist, so I can move to a different instrument as needed). We're both decent jazz musicians already, but we just started studying this subgenre seriously, so we're still at the beginning of this journey and we'd like to bring aboard others who'd like to learn the style along with us. We're looking for folks who are already reasonably competent on their instrument and can grow along with us as we refine our understanding of the genre together - or if you already specialize in hot club jazz, we'd love to join forces with you!
Other instruments we're looking to jam with include violin, clarinet, accordion, guitar, double bass, and voice. I can recommend excellent teachers for guitarists or violinists who are interested in taking lessons in this style.
I have a project studio at my place in Bloomfield where we can rehearse and perhaps eventually record. Ideally we'd love to work up a group that can be ready to start performing by the end of the year, but we're comfortable staying in the practice studio for as long as it takes us to feel comfortable and confident playing together.
Hope to hear from some likeminded musicians soon. Let's get together and swing!
***Please note: we do not use the "G-word" that is commonly used to describe this genre. It is a racial slur and it is no longer used in Europe where this music originated. Most of the world outside of America nowadays calls this music "jazz manouche" or "hot club jazz".***
