Description

The San Luis Obispo Chapter of The Ninety-Nines, Inc. is happy to announce the "WINGS" Over SLO Pilot Proficiency Workshops. We hope you will join us in enriching your aviation skills, networking with fellow flight enthusiasts, and supporting our mission of providing flight training scholarships to women. MORNING SESSIONS (choose one) VFR Proficiency - Scott Settle: Chief Instructor at SunWest Aviation, Inc. CFI, CFII, AGI, IGI Reviewing the basics of safe flight, including: Airspace; Flight Instruments; Engine, Systems and Instruments; Weight and Balance; Navigation; and Weather. Great for those interested in learning to fly, in the process of getting your first license or adding a rating, prepping for that bi-ennial flight review and for the rusty pilots ready to get back in the right seat. IFR Proficiency - Jacob Racho-Luis, CFI, CFII, MEI at SunWest Aviation, Inc. Deconstructing Instrument Flight: Focus on Situational Awareness, and Choosing and Briefing the Approach. The Practical Test Standards for the instrument instructor state “… the applicant shall select either the primary and supporting or the control and performance method of teaching…” But the fact of the matter is that the good instrument pilot uses both techniques at different phases of instrument flight, either individually or in various combinations thereof. This presentation will discuss both techniques and how, when and why we use them. AFTERNOON SESSIONS (choose one) Predictive Maintenance - Mike Busch, A&P/IA Aircraft engines and other components have traditionally been maintained on a fixed timetable (e.g., TBOs), although this time-based approach has gradually given way to condition-based maintenance based on regular inspections. Now this inspection-driven approach is starting to give way to “predictive maintenance” based on data from sensors installed on the aircraft and engine. Mike Busch, A&P/IA, discusses this latest trend and how it’s starting to trickle down to owner-flown piston GA. In-Flight Emergencies - Captain Mike Jesch Surprises are meant for Birthday Parties, not airplane flights! Cap'n Mike discusses ways that we can be just a little bit more ready for a range of events that may occur in flight. From real-life stories to a variety of hypothetical situations, preparation is the key ingredient that can be the difference that makes for a successful outcome. Please share this event with your friends, colleagues and fellow aviators. The Ninety-Nines is the international organization of women pilots that promotes the advancement of aviation through education, scholarships, and mutual support while honoring our unique history and sharing our passion for flight.
