Want to learn how to make beats better

I've tried but i could be better. I have so many ideas for samples but I have trouble figuring out how to set it up on my laptop. I have an akai mini keyboard with drum pads but never figured out how to utilize it. I recently did a few months on output. It was a lot better but lacked the drum kits- vary generic selection. Any musicians want to take on a student?
