Description
Description “Summer of Stewardship” is a program led by a network of volunteer groups that encourages participation in monthly stewardship activities to ensure the health and prosperity of future streamside habitat and water quality benefits in our local community. Caring for these newly implemented projects over a long period of time is a huge part of habitat restoration success. Making sure our projects are established in nature and will survive in the years to come is necessary for the recovery of these declining habitats. A few benefits of these restoration projects include reestablished native habitat for birds, small animals and fish, improved water quality, streambank stabilization, increased shade to regulate water temperatures, and beautification for the public to see and enjoy! With your help we will make sure plants are getting the attention they need through irrigation, mulching treatment to minimize invasive weeds, pulling weeds once discovered, planting and replacing dead plants and much more! Through your experience, one Friday a month, you will gain knowledge and skills regarding planting practices, native and invasive species, water quality discussions, learn all about riparian habitat for both wildlife and fish, and get to hang out with a Mid-Columbia expert while you're at it!
