The goal of this program is to give participants the tools needed to become change-agents in their community. To inspire participants to take an idea of how they can improve their community and build connections to see it through to the end. To appreciate the city for more than just their neighborhood and to take advantage of all opportunities available to them. Activities include but are not limited to:
Consistent weekly affirmations
Mental health check-ins
Youth led discussions
Travel throughout the city
Meals provided exclusively through Toledo based restaurants
Fellowship and partnership with youth from all across the City of Toledo
Participants will be responsible for creating ideas for programming to keep young adults engaged in positive behavior well after the 8 week session has ended
Partnerships will be made with small business owners, educators, politicians, clergy, lawyers, doctors, etc. to give first hand experiences and advice for how to accomplish goals
Participants will be split in two groups based on gender and will be assigned a mentor. There will be leadership training and brainstorming sessions in which groups will work together to create programs that will engage more youth after the program ends. The mentors will be responsible for assisting their mentee in a presentation at the end of the seven weeks for how they can change the City for the better.
Throughout the seven weeks, every Saturday from 10am-2pm, the groups will meet and discuss a specific leadership theme (the seven principles of Kwanzaa - unity, self-determination, collective responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith) as well as identify ways to incorporate these themes into their daily lives.
