The RMAPI Steering Committee invites you to join them in visiting "Clarissa Uprooted" on Thursday, July 21, from 2-3 pm, Sibley Square – RIT's City Art Space. The rich, interactive & immersive experience focuses on how we learn from Black ingenuity, entrepreneurship, and community, the impact of racist policies on our city/region, and how we repair and prevent future harm through the experiences of Rochester's former Clarissa Street neighborhood.
Clarissa Street was essentially Rochester's Black Wall Street--a thriving corridor that ran all the way to West Main Street. It was lined with dozens of Black-owned businesses that were torn down during urban renewal, and Rt. 490 construction--the consequences of which we continue to live with today.
