We will start with the basics of how oil and cold wax is applied to the paper or canvas, using a palette knife or spatula. You will learn how to combine wet on wet paint to mix colors and create depth. We will also practice layering colors, mark-making, and using different tools; such as brushes, corrugated paper, knives, crayons, pencil, stencils, etc. These tools will be provided for you to explore using. We will even explore smoothing the paint with our gloved fingers or hands.
We will talk a bit about mixing colors, color matching/contrasting and composition. We will also talk about how to show dimension with layers.
However, this class will mostly show you the very basic techniques and then let your creative imagination flow. This is a very intuitive style of painting, so allowing whatever happens on the canvas is part of the fun. We will discover all sorts of happy surprises along the way. We will leave your perfectionist ideals aside, and you will be free to turn this technique into your own uninhibited style.
You should wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on, or bring an artist smock or oversized shirt to protect your clothing.
You don’t have to have ANY experience in painting at all in order to enjoy learning this unique and fun way to create abstract art. BE PREPARED TO HAVE FUN!
We will hold two separate classes with 12 students per class.
Class Fees: $75 total ($25 supplies + $50 Instruction)
