I'm 50's been playing a while, long enough to know what works when you throw people who are new to playing music with each other. I have a friend who is a drummer, we get together a couple times a month and a guitarist friend will show when he can. We pretty much just play originals that are pretty easy to remember and are rythmic enough to be in sync with the drums and anyone else. Think Ramones, Nirvana, Black Flag, Social Distortion type music. We also play some really easy metal along the lines Scorpions meets Slayer, the easy is the Scorpions, the sound is more like a Slayer, Metallica etc. We just show and start playing and maybe toss a few beers back. We don't give each other homework or anything like that. We've been at this for more than two years and it just works pretty well. I can also swing by your house if you have a drum set and want to jam on occasion. Keep on jamming! That's all I can say.
