Bluegrass/Newgrass/Acoustic Jam Band

Description

Hey, my name is Donald; I am a mandolinist looking to put together a bluegrass/newgrass/ acoustic jam band. I have experience playing mandolin in a jam band trio and have played mandolin and guitar in various local bluegrass bands. I am looking for a couple of likeminded musicians to form a band. I placed a similar ad a couple of months ago and a I got to play with some really great musicians, but ultimately, I never found a group of folks with the same combination of musical sensibilities and goals, so I thought I would give it another shot. In terms of influences, I a big Yonder Mountain String Band fan; I am especially a fan of Jeff Austin and the energy he brought to every show. Bill Monroe, David Grisman and, of course, Chris Thile are also huge influences. Outside of bluegrass/newgrass, I am a fan of the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic and early String Cheese Incident (I am particularly fond of their acoustic sets from 4/26/01 and 10/25/04), in addition to many more. I also like playing fiddle tunes, and I love jazz, from Dixieland to Fusion. In terms of instrumentation, I am looking for a guitarist, a bassist (either double bass or bass guitar) and maybe one other instrument, a second guitar, a fiddle, possibly a banjo. I am not a strong singer, so a vocalist would be great, but I am flexible with the band concept, and I could see a scenario where we focus on playing instrumentals, fiddle tunes, jazz standards and Dawg Music. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, let me know and we can set up a time to get together and jam and just see where it goes.
