Description
All are welcome to join us for a TRIPLE garden walk and Bird Conservation Presentation. This event is for all ages, bring the kids, grandkids, and any interested gardener. We’ll tour the DGC Sprouts Learning Garden which includes vegetables, herbs and flowers. The Sprouts Garden was planted and is maintained by DGC Sprouts youth members and their families. Learn more about DGC Sprouts here: DGC Sprouts Nearby the Learning Garden is the DGC Butterfly Garden which is a mostly native plant garden in a parking lot island at the church. The blooms there are ever changing as the summer progresses. It supports many butterflies and native insects all summer and is a great place to catch some of them zipping by and to learn about insect life cycles. The final stop is the DGC daylily garden should be at or near peak bloom. It is a special place where daylilies bequeathed to our club by a former member were saved. The garden is lovingly maintained by our DGC members. We’ll follow the walks with some fresh vegetables, fruit and herb tastings. We’ll sample the ripe vegetables, fruit and herbs right from the DGC Sprouts Learning Garden. Finally, we’ll wrap up the evening with a wonderful presentation given by DGC member and birder extraordinaire, Bob Fisher. He will address what we as gardeners can do to help our local bird population. This presentation will be suitable for the children in attendance as well. Please stay and enjoy picking this birder's brain! Schedule for the evening: 5:30-6:30 Garden walks and tastings 6:30-7pm Social time and continued tastings 7pm Presentation by Bob Fisher, member DuPage Birding Club and Bird Conservation Network The presentation will be hybrid, so if you can’t stay for the entire evening, you can watch it at home. This is a combined meeting of the DGC and DGC Sprouts Youth Club, but membership is not required to attend.
