M.Z. First Baptist Church: Leadership in our local Community:- Dr. Otis Mitchell, Speaker, Rotary Club of San Antonio Northwest meeting. Reverend Doctor Mitchell is the pastor of Mount Zion First Baptist Church, one of San Antonio's oldest African American churches. Rev. Mitchel was raised in Alabama and Georgia. His is graduate of Alabama State University with a B.A. degree in Political Center, also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Morehouse School of Religion, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from San Antonio Theological Seminary. Dr. Mitchell was a Chaplain in the U.S. Army for 25 years, and retired in 2006 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was Chaplain for Fort Ord, CA, with the National Guard and Reserve during Operation Desert Shield. Dr. Mitchell has been recreating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s sermons and speaking about Dr. King's life and influence since 1975. He was the 2010 and 2011 Chairman of the Martin Luther King Commission of San Antonio. His personal motto is, "Make a Difference." Mt Zion has a vibrant Prison/Jail Ministry and a weekly Food Bank Ministry held at the church. He mentored students at Wheatly Heights, ministers to a Christian School, orphanage, and mission. Come and meet the community service professional volunteers at Northwest Rotary, members of Rotary International, the largest service organization in the world. Start the new year out by joining us at Rotary and beginning the thoughts about the celebration later this month of Martin Luther King Day. Lunch is served at Outback Steakhouse for $17 per person. You can attend Zoom for free, or the meeting with the lunch, after registering here. Space with adequate social distancing is provided at Outback Steakhouse. Face masks are required for the safety of all.
