Do you have tons of extra figs on your trees and interested in learning a new way to use them? Fig preserves are a much loved preservation method for this delicious fruit, but it is a very time-consuming method. Have you ever tried making fig jam instead?
Fig jam is prepared and canned within a 2-3 hour time frame, as opposed to preserves that must be boiled for lengthy amount of time, set in the fridge, and warmed again before canning. This preservation method is safe for shelf stability, so you can make tons and leave it on your shelf all year round to enjoy your summer/early fall harvest!
Come join Hyde County's FCS Extension Agent at the Ocracoke Community Building for a hands-on class making and canning fig jam, leading up to the Fig Festival later in the week. This event is FREE thanks to a wonderful grant from the Vidant Beaufort Hospital.
Registration is limited to 12 participants per class and is required.
This event registration is for August 2, 1:00pm - 3:30pm.
