Wade Carpenter worked at Independence High School from 1974 to 1987, where he taught history and current affairs while also coaching the school’s championship quiz-bowl team. After returning to school for graduate work, Dr. Carpenter embarked on a distinguished career in higher education. He has recently retired from Georgia’s Berry College and moved back to Mecklenburg County, NC with his wife to reside in the Matthews Glen retirement community. Dr. Carpenter made a deep and abiding impression on his students. Now it’s time for us to show him our appreciation. We’re gathering at Matthews Glen on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 2p to 4p to catch up, exchange stories, and honor a truly innovative educator and wonderful man.
