Description

Shark is an energetic, playful, intelligent, good, good boy who likes people and loves other dogs. He is 50+ lbs., vaccinated, neutered, and chipped. If you are looking for a running partner, someone to chase you in circles around your yard, or for a playmate for your energetic dog, Shark just might be the boy for you. The ideal home for Shark is with someone who has the energy to keep up with a 1-year-old husky/malamute/german shepherd mix. He lived with another dog for most of his life, and they got along very well. Smaller dogs can find him intimidating because of his size, but in general, I think he would do well living either with another dog or alone. His playstyle is rough, he loves to play-bite and wrestle, so bear that in mind. He currently lives with two cats, and I do not think he should live with cats in the future. His prey drive is too high. Shark knows some basic commands (sit, down, stand, shake, leave it) but in typical husky fashion, he sometimes chooses to forget. I wouldn't say he is crate-trained, but he does sleep through the night (10+) hours in his crate once adjusted to his surroundings. When I am working in the other room or around the house, he is usually fine in his crate for up to 8 hours without making a fuss. But, again, their is an adjustment period, so be prepared for his cries during that time. Unfortunately, Shark does have a biting history. About a month ago, he bit and injured another dog. It wasn't a serious injury, but it did happen. He had never shown aggression toward another dog before, not even so much as resource guarding, and hasn't since. He enjoys going to the vet and the groomer. Really, any place that involves a car ride is a fun journey for him. He doesn't mind being handled -- you can literally pick him up and carry him around like a baby and he will just stare at you like you're a weirdo until you put him down. I've had to shove my hand down his throat to retrieve a piece of plastic, accidentally clipped a nail too short to the point he bled, and he never even flinched. He is shy around new people, but once he warms up to you, he will never leave you alone. He is not a cuddler but he does love company and having someone to play with. He is nervous in new situations as well, but once adjusted, he is a confident and happy boy. As far as rehoming fees, I'm not comfortable taking money for rehoming him, so I ask that you instead donate 100 to an animal welfare organization in the PNW as a rehoming fee. I know people go online looking for a cheap deal, but I need to make sure Shark goes to the best home possible. If that seems like too much to pay for a dog, then it might be difficult for you to accept the price of vet visits, grooming, or even feeding a big dog alone, so Shark might not be the right fit for you. Although I'm no longer able to care for him, Shark has brought so much joy into my life and all I want is to find him the perfect home. If you think it could be with you, please shoot me an e-mail. I've copied and pasted the questionnaire the Oregon Humane Society suggests to use when rehoming pets below, so please answer those questions in the body of your e-mail. If you have any questions or would like more info, pics, or vids about Shark, let me know! Thank you for reading about my good good boy and helping me find his perfect home! -- What attracted you to my pet? What are you looking for in a companion? What are the deal breakers that would make you consider not adopting? What is your plan of action to introduce the pet to the home? Where will he/she be during the day? Where will he/she sleep at night? Do you have a veterinarian or an idea of one you may want to go to? What is your experience with animals? Do you currently have any pets in the home? If so, what is your plan for introduction in the home? If for some reason in the future you had to give the pet up, what would your plan be to find them a new home?
