Description
We are a group of experienced musicians putting together a new project (mostly originals, a few choice covers), and we're looking for a lead guitarist or keyboardist. Good tone and the ability to come up with creative parts to existing songs are vital.
We are bass, drums, a multi-instrumentalist, and vocals. About half of our songs are instrumentals, the other half with vox. The goal is to play out about every 6-8 weeks (we're all in other bands here as well). This project is about being creative, having a musical conversation, and enjoying what we're doing (it is a paying gig, though!).
Some musical influences and inspirations: Los Lobos (more Kiko/Colossal Head/Latin Playboys than their straight-up rootsy/bluesy records, though we love them, too), Calexico, Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros (and the less punk side of The Clash), The Police, Alejandro Escovedo, Chris Whitley, Morphine, Grant Lee Buffalo, The Iguanas, Santana, Khraungbin, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell.
If you listen to the music on those artists' records, you'll hear tasteful and melodic playing, solos that are more about being creative than they are blazing a thousand notes, and great tones.
Please share samples of your playing if you have them and I'll send a few of our songs your way. Age doesn't matter to us -- if it matters to you, we're 40s/early 50s. Thanks!
