The Lower 9th Ward Homeownership Association (L9WHA) and Lower 9 Neighbood Association (L9WNA) proudly announce details about the inaugural Lower 9 Fest, sponsored by a host of local partners. The free festival will take place Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 12:00 - 4:00pm at Oliver Bush Playground located at 2500 Fats Domino Ave., New Orleans, LA. The first-time festival will feature live music, food trucks, activities for kids and a resource fair facilitated by 40+ community organizations and businesses that support the historical Lower 9 community. “In keeping with the spirit of community and connectivity, the L9WHA has collaborated with residents and organizations of the neighborhood to host the 1st Annual L9 Food, Music & Community Resource Festival to connect community members with needed resources while enjoying an afternoon of live music and food,” said Gaynell Brady with the L9WHA. “The event stemmed from the need to create awareness about available community resources. It was originally slated to take place last year, but Hurricane Ida derailed our planning. We are beyond excited to be able to bring this experience to the city and the residents of our community.” The festival will feature an array of local cuisine from local food truck vendors to allow participants to sample the tastes of New Orleans. Vendors include The Cooking Therapist, Beaucoup Eats, Paddy Daddy, Funkee Foodz, Danielle’s New Orleans Sno Balls and others. The fest will also host a community resource fair with 40+ community resources including Aetna, Metropolitan Human Services District, Our Mammy’s, Urban Conservancy, Leona Tate Foundation, Water Wise Gulf South and more! Our kids zone will have activities sponsored by Whole Village Art Therapy and Aetna. There will also be musical performances and appearances by Kermit Ruffins, Tonya Boyd Cannon, Tekrema Center for Arts and Culture, Da Truth Brass Band, the Dr. M.L.K. High School Band, and DJ PJ. The event will kick off with a second line with the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club 2022 King and Queen, Stooges Brass Band and community leaders
