July 27th marks the 6 year anniversary of the murder of Kyra Franchetti by her abusive father. Kyra was only 2-years-old when she was shot to death while sleeping by her father, who then set his house on fire and killed himself during an unsupervised, court-approved visit. Kyra's murder was entirely preventable. During the two years of custody hearings, Judge Danielle Peterson and Nassau County Court officials were repeatedly notified that Kyra’s father was dangerous, abusive, and suicidal. During the years of court proceedings, he stalked, harassed, and threatened Kyra and Kyra's Mom. Not one person involved in Kyra's case put her safety first. Kyra's story is NOT unique.20 children have been murdered by their own parent while going through a custody case, divorce, visitation hearing, or separation in New York State alone since 2016. Our message is simple - Pass Kyra's Law! Pass ALL eight bills inspired by her custody case and murder. Make child safety the TOP priority.
