Description

Do you like to draw or express yourself through writing? Are you looking for opportunities to share your art? Is there something you'd like to vocalize to your community? Does the thought of being published excite you? Or are you just down to be creative? If so, come join us in making a community zine! All are welcome, no creative experience is necessary. A zine (short for magazine) is “a self-published work of original or appropriated images or text. Historically, zines have provided community for groups through the ability to express and pursue common ideas and subjects." In this workshop, we'll be creating artwork to share stories about our lives, health, communities, families, challenges and hopes while living through the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendees will be provided a list of prompts to guide their creations. Prompts like: “It’s the ___________ for me.” (ex. “It’s the zooms for me.”, “It’s the isolation for me.”, “It’s the sanitizer for me.”, “It’s the masks for me.”) "I could not survive without _____ during this pandemic." "Community looks like _________." "5 years from now I envision _________." "COVID taught me ________."Choose from your favorite art form (or a combination of forms) to contribute to the community zine: creative writing (i.e. poetry, short story, journal entry), drawing, painting, comic strip, graphic design, collage, etc. Art materials will be made available along with technology for creative writing. Feel free to bring in your own art supplies, if you'd like! You have the freedom to be creative in sharing your experiences and adding your voice to this collective zine making workshop. All submissions will be scanned and placed in a digital gallery with your name for credit and for public viewing. The artwork can include messaging to build confidence about the COVID-19 vaccine, masks, hygiene etc. and how they can help to achieve a safe, new normal.
