Older AC unit probably needs more refrigerant

I have an older home, central AC unit that probably needs a top-off of more refrigerant. The unit is working somewhat, but not able to cool down below 80 even if on all the time. It is R-22, or whatever the equivalent is. It was was last in need of more in 2017, so 5 years ago. My go-to AC person answered my call and was to come Saturday, but never showed up. Can't get a-hold of him Anyone?
