DEDHAM, MA — This year brought struggles and doubt to Dedham residents and communities across the country, but it also brought a newfound strength seen in our neighbors and friends. While we're ready to put 2020 behind us, we're bringing with us the moments that brought us together and the people who pushed us forward and kept our spirits high. At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Patch asked Dedham residents to tell us about the local heroes who made navigating the scariest months a bit easier and the response was immense. Here are some of Dedham's 2020 heroes. Thank you. Hospital Harpist Goes The Extra Mile To Bring Joy: Dedham Hero "She is the harpist at Brigham and Women's Hospital, but she volunteered to call my 90-year-old dad every day since Covid began to keep him happy." Mother, Son Duo Battle Pandemic In Their Own Ways: Dedham Heroes Both mom and son are essential workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. Dedham Girl Raises Money For Coronavirus Fund With Lemonade Stand A young Dedham resident celebrated her sixth birthday uniquely, selling lemonade. But she didn't set up her stand in the hopes of earning cash for a birthday toy or treats — her stand was dedicated to Dedham's COVID-19 Relief Fund. Dedham Family's Weekly Pizza Night Raises Money For Local Charities "My good friend and neighbor said 'let's make this a thing!' Now it's become Thursday night Fontaine Flames!" said Patti Fontaine. Papa Gino's Manager Donates Pizzas To Hospitals: Dedham Hero One thing that always stood out to me when I was working with Steve is that he is very dedicated to his community. He wants to see people healthy and well and give them something to smile about. Juggling Virtual Senior Years And Grocery Store Work: Dedham Hero They are both seniors this year one in high school and one in college. They have to keep up with their school work on line while working 6 days a week. It's been a sad end of school year for all seniors.
