MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — On New Year's Day, residents in Miami-Dade County will leave behind a year marked by unprecedented hardship and challenges. After spending much of the year navigating the once-in-a-lifetime coronavirus pandemic, many will no doubt welcome 2021 with open arms. As we ring in the new year in our town, many local facilities and government offices will take the day off to recognize the start of the new year. Here's a look at what's open and closed in Miami-Dade County on New Year's: Miami-Dade County government offices: All offices will be closed Friday. Transportation and Public Works: County transit options will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year's Day. It will return to its regular schedule on Saturday. All administrative offices will be closed Friday. Solid Waste Management: All waste and recycling collection services will occur on a normal schedule, and all disposal facilities will observe normal operating hours on New Year's Day. All administrative offices will be closed Friday. Miami-Dade Public Libraries: All public libraries will close Friday. Miami-Dade County Public Schools: All public schools are closed through Jan. 4. Miami-Dade County COVID-19 testing sites: Hours vary at each testing site over the holiday weekend. Check the hours for the facility nearest you online here. City of Miami government offices: All city offices and facilities will be closed on New Year's Day. City of Miami Solid Waste Department: Garbage, bulky trash and recycling will be picked up according to its regular schedule on Friday.
