Description
The preschool cleaner has the primary responsibility for cleaning the center in such a way to promote health and safety while reducing the spread of infection. It is the role of the cleaner to follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules at the center including, but not limited to, the classrooms, bathrooms, storage areas. The cleaner follows the cleaning schedule when the children are not in the center so no interference with their care occurs. Work Hours 5:00-9:00pm Essential Functions: Follows and completes the center's daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule. These duties include: Collects and bags all garbage from the center, placing the tied bags in a closed dumpster. Disinfects and cleans garbage and trashcans, and changes bags daily. Washes and sanitizes bathrooms fixtures daily with germicidal solution. Using germicidal solution, wet mops all washable floors daily including bathroom and classroom. Vacuums all carpeting daily. Reports the following to the Director, or designated staff person: a. Presence of animals, vermin or insects. b. Need for cleaning supplies or equipment repair in advance. c. Water leaks, and other maintenance needs. d. All other health and safety hazards noticed. Recommended Employment Qualifications Education: It is preferred that the cleaner have training in the cleaning field. Experience: Experience in the cleaning field desirable. Knowledge of proper cleaning methods required. Effective oral and written communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required. Additional Requirements: Must be able to comply with background check, including fingerprints, as required by the agency and/or DHS. Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community. Must have effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills. Ability to learn and comprehend information from Procedures Manuals and other materials. Must be able to physically move through the center and classrooms. Ability to lift 30 pounds. Successful experience working as an effective member of a team desirable. Experience successfully working with a culturally diverse staff & clients also desirable. Must possess personal qualifications as required in DHS Standards for Day Care Centers, including: emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of Head Start, respect for children and adults from various cultures and backgrounds, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health that do not interfere with responsibilities.
