Sonofarious, a mellow and eclectic instrumental ensemble, comes together with guest singers and musicians to present "A Sense of Home" at Story and Song Center for Arts and Culture, Saturday August 6, from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. Through traditional and folk songs, ballads, spirituals, and some surprises, we explore the peace and pleasure home brings, as well as nostalgia and heartbreak – set against the displacement of thousands in Ukraine.
Led by Sonofarious member and music arranger Brenda C. Kayne, a wide variety of instruments – harp, flute, piano, electric bass, bassoon, guitalele, rainstick, and more – will join solo and ensemble voices to paint a nuanced picture of what home means. Special guest and local gospel singer Nanette Autry will present "I'm Building Me a Home." Also featured is the Ukrainian National Anthem, in sympathy for the ongoing war and destruction of family and home. Profits gratefully received will go towards supporting displaced families there.
Sonofarious members are Sarah Flint, Brenda C. Kayne, Scott Kessler, Munsell McPhillips, and Marcus Yew. Friends include Wilma Allen, Gary Autry, Nanette Autry, Joan Averett, Tara Barrineau, Deborah Adeline Conner, Richard Coombe, Carmen Flint, Phyllis Free, Linda Hart Green, Lynda Lawrence, Eric Linden, Bonnie Liteborn, Melinda Lombardino, Ozzie Medina, Richard Miller, Penny Reid, and Zach Williams.
Masks will be welcome at the performance. Since space is limited at the venue, it is important that you register on Eventbrite before attending the concert. That way we can keep track of numbers and avoid flouting capacity rules. Thank you and see you there!
