The GOP has lame excuses for their stand on guns. Armed teachers in the schools is a lousy excuse for defense against assault rifles. Another one is "mental health". Anything but limiting the number of weapons for mass murder. Deer don't run in herds. No need to be able to fire 30 rounds into one. Restricting gun ownership to "stable" individuals is subject to your definition of mental health problems. My opinion is that there are a lot of mentally unstable individuals who are carrying guns already. I just saw two guys at an outdoor event, both open carrying, and strutting along. One of them was 300-350 pounds, a huge man, plenty of muscle. I wanted to ask him "Tinkerbell, what are you afraid of, the boogey man?". In my 70 years, in NH, I have never been threatened with a gun. The chances are mighty slim, unless you hang out where the crazies gather. There have been few cases of alarms sounding when a crazy posts nutty stuff on Facebook or wherever. And to top it off, some cops or guards won't even pursue a guy or girl who has an assault rifle. They wait an hour or so for backup. Pretty sad. To tell an unstable person they can't buy a gun is of limited value. They will just go to a gun show, flea market, or arrange to meet someone who will sell them one. The almighty dollar is more important than kids getting decapitated by an AR-15. So the mental health issue is bound to be a very difficult one to enforce. Years ago, before these weapons became widely available, everyone got along fine with what they had. Now, it is a macho symbol, like owning a Harley or having your body covered with tattoos. Gotta have that AK 47! Man up and smarten up. The more of these weapons that are sold, the more mass murders we will have to endure. Simple truth. Go ahead and send me all the warped excuses, blame everyone else, sound the alarm for all the foolish reasons you can dream up. You want to go back to the earlier times, learn to fight with your fists or keep your mouth shut. Never mind "the great equalizer". Grow a pair. Skip sending all those donations to the NRA, let them use their own money for luxury vacations that you finance.
