Getting back to the stage with a national quality product can take everything you've got when you're not exactly a household name. Guitarist Ken Mansfield, drummer Steve Wickstrom and vocalist Gerrad Anthony are experiencing that reality as this is being written. We thought our first gig would've been in the books by now, but the bassist we feel we need (we've tried three) hasn't happened yet. There's been good talent, but life and work schedules get in the way at this level. What we're asking players to do isn't easy and the retro material seems to be a concern for some as well. We've even opened up the direction of the band to accommodate the musician, but we're still looking. Here's where we're at. The project has morphed from exclusive blues and blues/rock to a more wide open field to include iconic groove, ballads, heavy rock and metal covers with our own added flavor, while we write compatible original material. Mr. Mansfield has proven to be capable of something I'd always suspected... being able to recreate and even artistically improve and intensify some of the tunes we choose to roll with. His willingness to find just the right tone for each song/artist we cover has been impressive. Drummer, Steve Wickstrom is an artist! He thinks about and makes valid suggestions on things like no other drummer I've played with. Tasteful is what comes to mind, like Simon Phillips', who played on Judas Priest's album "Sin After Sin". He's patient and considerate of everyone, yet demanding of himself and easy to work with. Our goal with this is to blow fans away with EVERY song we play at a live show. As much as I love the PRIEST, it's been great to spread my wings and fly in whatever direction we choose. Having said that, there's an extensive list of JP tunes that I've never performed live in all the years of DOF..... you just never know what can happen, and when the right bassist hooks up with us, it's ALL gonna happen!
