Position: SENIOR DECKHAND/Engineer Department: Operations Location: Cascade Locks, OR Reports to: Engineer on-duty, Captain on-duty, Operations Manager We are looking for several folks who are excited to interact with guests and learn about boats to join our team! Training is paid and available, experience is preferred but definitely not required. All you need is a great attitude and a willingness to learn! We operate sightseeing and meal cruises. The Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler is a staple in Cascade Locks and the Gorge as a whole, you would be an important part to many special days and memories. Entry Level position! JOB DESCRIPTION: Assist with daily operational duties on-board the ships, from tying up lines to checking on the engine. Pre-employment drug screen & enrolled in random D.O.T. drug testing schedule required (including Marijuana). Flexible schedule for day, early mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends & holidays. DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES: • Completion of AWI Senior Deckhand safety training • Thorough knowledge of the safety equipment location & use on all AWI boats & emergency response of all crew (food & beverage, bar & galley) on the vessel you’re responsible for • Possess the ability to direct emergency response • Demonstrate good leadership & the ability to perform under pressure • Reports directly to & carries out the directives of the Engineer • Ιnstructs & assists the deck crew in the performance of routine duties & assigned tasks • Demonstrate ability to identify & address safety & maintenance projects as they arise & reports to Engineer • Complete safety or maintenance projects directed by Captain or Engineer • Thoroughly clean vessel before & after cruise • Complete items on the Senior Deckhand task sheet • Good public relations In addition, the engineer is also responsible for preventative maintenance, overseeing work with contractors and engineering paperwork and logs, and capable of troubleshooting and initiating basic repairs of onboard equipment. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: • Self starter • Good time management skills • Good Leadership ability • Capable of lifting and carrying 40 pounds • Maritime background helpful but not required • TWIC certification or obtainment of certification required upon hire • C.P.R.
