Description

We are looking for a few folks who are excited to interact with guests and learn about boats to join our team! Training is paid and available, experience is preferred. We operate sightseeing and meal cruises on five vessels, you would be an important part to many special days and memories. JOB DESCRIPTION: Captain experience & resume necessary. Pre-employment drug screen & enrolled in random D.O.T. drug testing schedule required. Flexible schedule for day, early mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends & holidays. DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES: Complete Senior Deckhand & Engineering training. Knowledgeable of all boat engines & other mechanical equipment. Know the state of repair and readiness of your vessel. Manage the operations staff on duty & operate Portland Spirit vessels in a manner that ensures compliance with USCG regulations, federal law and the standards, policies & procedures set forth by Portland Spirit & Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler. Ensure a positive & professional image of the Operations department to the other departments, passengers and the general public through performance, attitude & appearance. Possess in-depth knowledge of the lower Willamette and lower Columbia rivers. Deliver safety announcements (and narration when applicable) over the public address system. Work closely with Cruise Manager & Chef to create a safe and pleasant working environment, cooperation between departments & compliance with all company policies procedures as well as the highest quality presentation possible to our guests & the general public. Identifying safety & maintenance projects & determining the practicality of delegating repairs to Operations staff on duty or filing a repair order. Assist with training new employees with guidance toward maintenance projects. Train & educate Sr. Deck & Engineers in the rules of the road, navigation, chartwork & the practices of good seamanship. Encourage advancement within the company & the acquisition of MMC’s. Train operations crew in public relations, including, but not limited to, dealing with intoxicated persons & all A.D.A requirements. Ensure DOT requirements in relation to passenger count requirements. Present status reports & recommendations to the Operations Manager regarding promotion, demotion & termination of Operations personnel. Enforce disciplinary action within the guidelines of the department & the company. Communicate with Operations Manager & arrange voyage repairs to ensure that your vessel does not miss a scheduled cruise. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: 100 ton Master License certification Excellent public relations skills required TWIC certification or obtainment of certification required upon hire.
