Kyler Michael Klein, 25, of Nappanee, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord at 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Goshen Hospital following a 15-month battle with cancer. Kyler was born in Warsaw, Indiana, on June 11, 1996, to Robert and Shelly (Hill) Klein. He lived in Warsaw before moving with his family to Nappanee when he was 7 years old. Kyler was a 2015 graduate of NorthWood High School. He worked at Martin's Supermarket in Nappanee during high school and after graduation he began working at Quality Hardwood Sales (Universal Forest Products) in Nappanee. Kyler had a strong work ethic – he was always punctual and hardly ever missed a day of work. Even while battling with cancer. For the next year, Kyler was an inspiration to all of our associates. He would put in extreme effort and strength to get to work every day. He was relentless. Every day, he would uphold our plant values: Together, Toughness and Trust. Every day, even when he was just flat-out miserable, he would grind it out. Kyler was fearless and a dedicated associate. Most importantly, he was family. Kyler had a tattoo on his inner bicep that just said STREGNTH. Strength! One of Kyler's favorite activities was lifting weights. His work ethic, courage, and strength always helping to push him forward to accomplish great tasks. Leading him to work towards and hit a 315lb bench press at Eastlake24. So in Kyler's memory, what better way to represent Kyler and his strength than to put on a competition testing strength, power, and endurance. For the first year all equipment is being donated or sponsored through local businesses and people. This will be an annual event, with this first year all proceeds going to Kyler's family to help with medical bills that were left behind through his battle with cancer. Going forward we will be setting up a scholarship fund in his name for students at Northwood High School in Nappanee. 2. SO WHAT IS A STRONGMAN COMPETITION? WHAT ARE THE EVENTS EVENTS • Vehicle Pull (car, truck) – weights of vehicle vary by weight class • 50 yds timed event for points Each competitor will have a pulling harness on, strapped to a tow rope that will be attached to a specific vehicle depending on your division and weight class. You will be at a starting line and on GO! You will use a rope to help keep your balance and traction to help you pull that vehicle as fast as you can to the end line • Log Flip (Fingal Finger) weight and size of logs vary by weight class • 6 Flips – timed event for points o Each competitor will have to preform essentially a power clean 6 times. You will lift the log up, push it up your chest into a press. And using your arms to push up and your legs to walk forward flip the log over. Run to the other side and complete this 5 more times. When the log falls on the 6th rep. The time stops. We will have varying weights of logs (again depending on your division and weight class). • Weighted Sled Pull (seated) weights added to sled vary by weight class • 25-30 yds timed event for point o Each competitor will be seated in a row like position with a rope in hand. Before the time starts you will want to make sure there is no slack in the rope. The rope will be attached to a sled that will be loaded with varying weights (again depending on your division and weight class). • Tractor Tire Flip – Size and weight of tire will vary by weight class • 30-40 yds timed event for points (or distance if not able to finish) o Each competitor will start in a standing position. When the time starts you will do exactly as the event says. Flip that tire. End over end until any part of the tire crosses the finish line. Tire sizes and weights will vary. (again depending on your division and weight class). • Farmers Carry (Hex Carry) Weight will vary by weight class • 50 yd timed event for points o Each competitor will stand in the middle of a HEX BAR that will have weight plates loaded on to it. (again depending on your division and weight class). The timer will start when you pick up the weight. You will then move as fast as you can to the turn around point, walk around the cone and head back to the original starting/ finish line. Time will stop when you cross the line. At any point in the carry you have to stop you are allowed. You are allowed to put down the weight to readjust your grip or take a break, just keep in mind, points are based off time. *** Bonus Event – 315lb Bench Press 1 REP - inside Eastlake24 This bonus event is being sponsored by Eastlake 24 and will be located inside the gym itself. This event is derived from Kyler. Before he was sick he was very into lifting and was able to finally hit a 315lb bench press max! And with Kyler’s strong faith in and religion. We also attached the biblical verse of John 3:15 to this (so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life). So in honor of that and his feat we are offering the chance to match it! #KylerStrong315 in Kyler’s Corner. Any contestant or spectator is able to go in to the gym and with a signed waiver attempt to Bench Press 315 lbs. If you are successful you will be given a #KylerStrong315 T-Shirt! So please while you are there. Go inside and checkout Eastlake24, check out the gym and ask how you can become a member today!! 12. SPECTATORS Spectators are highly encouraged!!! Invite your family, invite your friends, invite their friends!!! The better the turn out the better the success of the competition and the better it will be going forward with future events. More people equal more attention. That will attract even more area business to support us and participate in the future. Opening us up for bigger venue location more suitable for larger crowds. More sponsors, more events, more donors, and more donations for the future scholarship fund!! With that being said. We will have A LOT of people. Spectators, competitors, and volunteers. Please be mindful of the area business and parking. Please if you are able park in lots that are away from the competition area and walk a little way to spectate. This will go a long way with the area business for parking for their customers for the day. As well be huge for any emergency vehicles that would need access if an accident were to occur. 13. SPONSORS / DONORS We are still looking and accepting sponsors for the event! The individual events themselves are covered! BUT we still have spots needed for sponsors for equipment like weights, or items for future or alternate events that would take some of the burden off of Eastlake as far as what we are borrowing and using from them day of. We will also accept donors for “Ghost” cost that we have not planned for on the sponsor list, for things like caution tape to rope off areas, cases of water for competitors, stopwatches, banners, signage, flyers, etc. Any donor money given for competition cost that is not used. Will then be put into the GoFundMe account for Kyler’s family! Again, all proceeds go to the family or the scholarship fund! 14. DONATIONS Donations are highly encouraged and accepted. Donations directly to the family via the GoFundMe website ( Kyler Klein Benefit) https://www.gofundme.com/f/kyler-klein-benefit?qid=e4d191ddbd4b0534ddedab4a7b61dc68 Or in person the day of the event. We will have a cash box going around through the crowd and at the registration table, that we will collect and then present a check to the family the Monday directly after the event 9/26/2022 15. VOLUNTEERS If you want to help participate in the event without actually competing we will need several volunteers to step up and help out with set up, tear down, registration, individual events, handing out t-shirts, holding ropes for events, and a lot more. If you are interested in helping out in anyway please reach out by email to [email protected] Att: Strongman Volunteer ANY other questions, comments, concerns can also be sent to [email protected] Attn: Strongman Question, and I will get back to you as soon as I can! Lets make this a great experience for Kyler’s memory, our community, area businesses, and our people! #KylerStrong315
