Description

Created in 1972, the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of many separate parcels of bay and marshlands on both sides of San Francisco Bay. The wildlife refuge provides critical habitat for many species of plants and birds. Our walk is in the area just south of the Dumbarton Bridge. Millions of birds fly through the refuge during peak migration in the fall and winter. We will follow the Tidelands Trail and the Newark Slough Trail for an easy loop of approximately 2 miles to view the fauna and flora, including birds that have decided to hang around for summer. Leader Suzanne Weakley Total Distance This is an easy walk of about two miles with minimal elevation change.
