On Friday December 25, 2020 at 7:33 pm, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received multiple 911 calls of a building fire in the 6200 block of Morrison Road. The first-up fire companies arrived on the scene at 7:40 pm at the Chimneywood Townhomes located at 6201 Morrison Road and immediately called for a Second Alarm. A section of the complex contained nine units, two were vacant where the fire started.The two vacant apartments were on the end and heavily involved in fire and spreading to a third.The two vacant units both sustained heavy fire damage and firefighters extinguished the fire with only minor fire and water damage to the third unit where a mother and her five children lived. The family was able to escape without any injuries. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family of six displaced residents with housing vouchers, food, clothing, and information for longer term assistance needs. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS) and Entergy assisted in the mitigation of this incident.The cause of this incident is currently under investigation.
