Description

Celebrate With UsJuly marks our first year of offering this unique women's shelter. We have much to celebrate. All of our dinner events have been more about bringing people together than they have been about fundraising. We believe that if we do exceptional work serving the community while also hosting vibrant events that honor those who've supported this work, then the funding will take care of itself. To date, this has been a success. This is what community in service of community looks like. We'll be very happy to see you at this event. Be sure to bring a friend. Summertime SaladsThere will be a large selection of salads to choose from, including: Fish Taco SaladCaesar Salad (and chicken breast)Cobb SaladPasta SaladGreek SaladKale with feta, raisons and walnutsPlenty of fruit and fruit saladChicken SaladAll with Vegan & Veggie options and plenty more...Local Wine Maker & Non-Alcoholic BeveragesWine will be provided by a local vintner who supports our work. Wireless LovebirdA prolific improviser and composer, Wireless Lovebird has played across California, from Yoshi’s to Burning Man to the Olive Garden parking lot. His ephemeral piano work comes from an inkling that a human soul is just art waiting to be expressed. He has composed and performed the scores for a variety of stage productions and has accompanied and composed for ballet and modern dance classes at University California Santa Cruz, Cabrillo College, Motion Pacific, and the International Academy of Dance. https://www.wirelesslovebird.com/ A Very Unique Women's ShelterSecret Garden is a Homeless Shelter for Women that is entirely supported by our community and operated with the help of a team of dedicated volunteers. There are a total of 12 beds in several dorm-style rooms, and a fully appointed community room and kitchen. There are two secure outside areas for limited gardening and socializing. Community VolunteersThe shelter has under-girding management supervision, yet every morning and evening there are community volunteers who help operate the program. This has enabled the shelter to come into existence with a comparably small budget. Putting community members in touch with once-homeless shelter residents has been beneficial for all. Achievable Goals Case Work ProgramEach shelter resident is part of a bi-weekly case work program that encourages them to create a long term focus and helps them to take regular meaningful steps toward that goal. Footbridge Services Center An extreme benefit of Secret Garden Women's Shelter is it's location near-to Warming Center's Footbridge Homeless Services Center, where shelter residents have access to weekly laundry, shower and storage programs, and a very robust materials donation program. Additionally, shelter residents provide 2-hours/week of volunteer service at Footbridge in order to gain basic skills, and that they may feel they're a beneficial part of the organization. Warming Center Program and why we do what we doSecret Garden Women's Shelter is a project of Warming Center Program, which has committed to reducing the experience of hypothermia and occurrence of death in the population of those who sleep outside for the past 8 years. After several years of discovering that we design and operate programs that are clean, efficient and well-run, we began asking what other basic needs exist that have been neglected by the local homeless industry. It became evident that there are many. Four years ago, we began operating a homeless storage program to help improve the experience of homeless. A year later we added laundry and the a shower program the following year. All of these together have vastly helped to transform people's lives.
