Description
We are fostering the sweetest little dog who has been through so much! Skippy came to us in late December of 2021 having been relinquished to a vet hospital due to sustaining significant trauma after being hit by a car. She endured several surgeries and had to wear casts on both right front and rear legs for a significant time. She still hops and skips sometimes, thus the name Skippy. We do not know specifics about her previous life, but it is obvious by some of her behaviors that she was abused and neglected. When she came to us she did not know how to play with toys or balls, hadnβt ever been on a leashed walk, and was always frightened that we were going to hit her or take away her food. Now Skippy loves to play fetch and really enjoys her comfy dog bed and all the toys! She has come a long way in just 4 months with us. She is fixed and has had all her shots. However, she has some special needs due to all that she has been through. The ideal home for her would be one where her new family has significant experience with traumatized animals. She gets skittish around new people and sometimes lashes out at other dogs. She also frequently has accidents in the house and wears a diaper most of the time. She is very trainable and could most likely be potty trained, but if this is a major issue for you then Skip is not the dog for you. Due to all of the things she has been through, we are looking for a family who is ready and able to take on a special needs pup. She is worth the effort, but please do not reach out if you are not prepared or able to afford professional training, if you often leave your dogs home alone for long periods of time, if you have rambunctious children, and if you are not able to dedicate time and money to her care. She would be perfect as an only dog with someone who can spend a lot of time with her. She doesnβt bark when youβre home, but we have heard that she barks when we leave the house. She can also get aggressive with other dogs, but it is hard to tell when she is going to react. She is very cuddly and playful and fun. Skippy is tiny, but tough and after all she has been through she still has so much love to give!!
