A few months ago my 75-yr old mother was rear-ended at 40mph while she was stopped at a stop sign, by some idiot looking at his phone. She got a concussion, and her recovery has been slow. I just moved her to Austin to be near me so I could help take care of her -- but she doesn't know anyone here, and she isn't safe to drive, so she's feeling super isolated!
I need someone to be her "social manager" -- to find groups and events happening around Austin that she'd enjoy, and most importantly, that would grow her social group -- and also to be her companion while she's finding her footing. This means occasional errands, a fair amount of online research to find good groups and events, and hanging out out with a sometimes-cranky sometimes-charming older woman with some amazing life experiences but also some cognitive impairment, and to get her out of the house and exercising, meeting people, and building a life in Austin!
I'm looking for someone to work about 20 hrs / week to start, mostly during afternoons but with occasional mornings and evenings, and also for at least one meeting per weekend (at least until she starts becoming more socially independent).
The ideal candidate would be patient and kind, good at eliciting conversation from others, and with a humorous streak. Also you should be comfortable with the internet and doing research into places / events / social groups / etc.
To apply, send me a resume, and tell me anything about yourself that your resume doesn't convey!
