Description

Award winning, master writer, Sarah Elizabeth Schantz teaches The AestheticThe Aesthetic: Every well-known artist—painters, musicians, directors, actors, and writers alike—develops an aesthetic that becomes their signature, a method in which they can be recognized. While aesthetic is a natural extension/expression of who an artist is as an individual, it can also be a response (including a rebellion) to the aesthetics of another art movement. The etymology and definition of the word “aesthetic” relates to the sensual perception a piece of art evokes. In this workshop, writers will learn to identify and consider their own unique artistic aesthetics and the particular aesthetic needs of their work-in-progress; from there we will explore how to cultivate such aesthetics to select and curate a specific sensory experience for their reader. Borrowing techniques from other artistic mediums, we will learn how to further coax the right aesthetic from the page as a way to create the crucial adhesive we all need to put everything together in a cohesive way. Useful for poets and prose writers alike.Sarah Elizabeth Schantz is primarily a fiction writer living on the outskirts of Boulder, Colorado with her family in a Victorian-era farmhouse where they are surrounded by open sky, century-old cottonwoods, and coyote. Her first novel Fig debuted from Simon & Schuster in 2015 and was selected by NPR as A Best Read of the Year before winning a Colorado Book Award in 2016. She is currently working on two novels and one collection of short stories. She teaches creative writing at Lighthouse Writers Workshop, for Naropa University, and through her own private seasonally-inspired workshop series, (W)rites of Passage.www.SarahElizabethSchantz.org and www.WritesofPassage.org
