We're working on a backyard hardscape renovation in a backyard in the Oakland Hills. Looking for an experienced stone mason to help with building retaining walls. Materials we're working with are mostly sandstone and granite. Layout is established, excavation work is mostly complete, most footers have been poured. Walls will range from low sitting walls to 4' high. Looking to create walls that have a drystack look with hidden mortared seams. Budget is something of an issue and while we definitely want to pay someone the wage they require, we're not looking to hire a contractor with related markups; we will supply materials and can provide all tools necessary. We also have laborers (open to bringing in other laborers as needed). Homeowner is a contractor and amateur designer/builder and has done several retaining walls on this property but has limited experience with stonework - and limited time - so we hope to find an expert who can help get 'er done properly. This should be an interesting and satisfying project: interesting design with Old World/Mediterranean and Zen aspects; quality matters, good for the portfolio, etc. Please feel free to get in touch if interested.
