We begin and end at Central Park, home of the Saturday morning Farmers' Market and the Hattie Weber Museum of local Davis history and heritage. We will walk and talk a 5K: stops include the Bicycle Hall of Fame, train depot, Putah Creek and the Native American Contemplation Garden, the Mondavi Center for Performing Arts, historical markers including original olive and fig trees from the Davis and Chiles families, the Silo of the University Farm, and more. Learn about the major influences that have shaped Davis: Putah Creek and early inhabitants, the californios and land grants, agriculture/husbandry, the railroad, and the university farm. We will also have the opportunity to see more recent history in development projects and public art along the way. All these places are publicly available for you to visit any time, and yet their rich history is not often heard. When you take time to examine the footprints of the Patwins, rancheros, settlers, fur trappers, judges, artists, administrators, and students who walked in the space over decades and centuries before you, Davis will take on new meaning.
