Discounted employee housing may be available in exchange for discounted captains payment for charters plus minimal number of hours of dockside work between charters (studio apartment with all furnishings, and dockside access to paddleboards/kayaks, tiki hut). PAYMENT: The following terms are based on your having your own housing (not part of employee-housing/dockside work/Captain job specifications. Ask). Captains typically receive an average of $100 Tip per each charter, plus we pay a $150 flat rate for each 2, 3, or 4-hr charter... or $200 per each 5 to 6-hour charter. If there is a last minute cancellation by the customer (not canceled by the captain/company or due to bad weather - same day), we pay $100 for full-day cancellations or $75 for half-day cancellations, if the charter is not re-sold for the same day. BONUSES: Low Season-end bonus for those consistently available and providing great service for charters for 6 months, Sept 1st through March 1. End-of-summer bonus (for those employed by March 1 through Labor day) for consistent, great service, is calculated based on number of charters you operated during the season. Last year average was $500 each season. Extra pay Bonuses also given for consistent FIVE-STAR TripAdvisor or Yelp reviews where the Captain is named in the review by the customers. OUR CHARTERS and CAPTAINS: Popular sandbar, sightsee, snorkel boats need a consistent, reliable, personable captain on a variety of 21ft-26ft boats. Typical start time is around 9:30AM and last return time is 30 minutes after sunset, year-around. Captain will need to have fun, positive interactions with customers. Captain must be in-water for some activities (hosting at the sandbar, setting up water toys, etc). Must be able to lift paddleboards and standard-size coolers with ice onto the boat. Boats must remain clean and well-maintained. You will have to be proactive to help us keep them that way, cleaning well after charters, keeping them organized, and reporting boat or customer issues, damage, loss immediately. Captain must be a warm host for the guests. Captain must consider himself/herself a true team-member, not simply an individual employee. We will also empower Captains to make rational decisions when on the water and appreciate input to make our charters even better. ESTIMATED NUMBER OF TRIPS PER SEASON *Low season -cold water months- average 6+ trips per month (mid Nov through mid February) with the more during holiday weeks include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years weeks. *Peak warm season (March, April, June) average 12+ trips per month (some days having 2 charters per day) *Months not listed above average 10+ trips per month,, with the majority surrounding holidays. *Weekends, spring/summer holidays and dates surrounding holidays are required work-dates, as this is our busiest time (excluding Thanksgiving day, Christmas every day, and New Years day - unless you want to work for bonus $). *We can try to work around your current employer's work schedule, if you have a second job. *Vacations/time off should be planned in advance, during low season months, and on less popular days/dates. JOB REQUIREMENTS * Valid USCG 6-pack license – Must provide prior to interview * MINIMUM 3 YEARS with license – cannot insure you otherwise * Snorkel boat/charter experience * LOCAL (already living near Islamorada, Key Largo, or Marathon) - Employee housing may be available for $1600 per month or in exchange for dockside work between charters (ASK) * Must be a problem-solver and rule-follower. No drinking (before or during charters). No smoking aboard the boat (smoke-break at the sandbar ok) * Expertise in safely maneuvering/docking/anchoring single engine boats. * Customer interaction and in-water activities (sandbar/snorkel) are required. Great to have customer service experience for bigger tips and repeat guests. * Great to have experience in the Islamorada bayside, sandbar, and oceanside reef area between markers 88 and 82 (our route)…. BUT not a deal breaker. We will ride-along until you are familiar. * Great to have your own boat that may be plugged into our “fleet” periodically… extra $$. No need for a formal resume yet. Describe types of boats and charters you have run (activities on the boat). Describe any customer service experience in your career (as captain or otherwise).
