Did you know that lichens are useful indicators of air quality and can produce vibrantly colored natural dyes?
Join artist in residence, Ayla Gizlice, for a celebration of lichens and air quality through kite flying ! Gizlice will fly her kilim kite, a traditional Anatolian flatweave carpet woven with environmental motifs and dyed with lichen. She chose a kite as her final piece to connect back to air quality, with the kite requiring air to activate. Ayla Gizlice is a Turkish-American artist from North Carolina, with a background in environmental science and art. Much of her work is interested in the intersection of those two fields. So don't miss the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful day: just don't forget to bring your own kite!
