Description

Learn more about the home of Akron and Summit County's founding family on a visit to the Perkins Stone Mansion and then discover the role of the community's most consequential resident for most of his life, John Brown. Visit the house that the Brown family rented from 1844 - 1854 when John Brown was the shepherd of a flock of 1300-1500 Merino Saxony sheep here on Mutton Hill. Guided tours are available of the first floor of both homes. And, see the sheep on loan from Jacobs Heritage Farm on Jacoby Road. Jennifer Jacobs' Jacob sheep have horns! They are a heritage breed and on summer camp working with the dogs of Society volunteer shepherdess Edie (with Rudy, Luke, Lincoln and Owen) and volunteers Gina (with Brooklyn) and Emily (with Dyna). Herding demos are available twice a month and at the end of Farm Fridays throughout the summer.
