In partnership with the Indiana Dunes National Park (IDNP), Indiana Landmarks welcomes speakers to discuss the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and its impact on architectural innovation in the twentieth century. Indiana Landmarks Northern Regional Office Director Todd Zeiger will explain how the Century of Progress Homes came to the Indiana Dunes and how an innovative leasing program helped save them. Edward Torrez, principal at BauerLatoza Studio and lead preservation architect on the House of Tomorrow restoration, and Charlie Hasbrouck, director of bKL Architecture, will offer insight on the architectural legacy of the House of Tomorrow and how its design guides our current approach to sustainable design. Park Ranger Bill Smith from Indiana Dunes National Park will also provide a brief history of the park. The talks take place at Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, 1215 N. State Road 49, Porter, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Central Time, with a reception and light refreshments. The talks run from 7-8:40 p.m., followed by more refreshments and Q&A session concluding at 9 p.m. The visitor center is fully accessible.
