Well before he started Kindergarten, Shanice knew her son's education would require a non-traditional approach. She independently researched best practices and developed working relationships with all his teachers; she kept meticulous records and worked with him in innovative academic programs over the summer. Even with all her time and effort, her son made minimal progress and the IEP team consistently denied Shanice's requests for increased supports.
