Are we experiencing inflation or collusion? Yes to both, But... I support capitalism, people creating a service or product and offering it for a price to consumers. I understand that, when gas prices go up - the price will go up for services that use gasoline. If there is a real shortage of product (like eggs right now due to the chickens dying from disease), I realize that the price of eggs, mayonnaise will rise. But what about the price gouging that is happening? What about the companies that are gleefully reporting huge profits during inflation? Read the business earnings reports for June, 2022. Look at, not revenues, but profit margins!!! This is price gouging. If we could reign in the profit margins earned at the expense of the average American citizen, prices would not get as high as they are right now. Ripped straight from the internet headlines... Last month, a Brooklyn man was charged with lying to federal agents about price gouging (after hoarding hand sanitizer in order to sell it for multiple times more than he paid for it). What is good for the citizens of American should be good for corporate America. Prosecute the price gougers. Implement a luxury tax for companies that raise prices higher that the rising cost of goods merits.
