Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60-80% of dementia cases. More than 6 million Americans live with Alzheimer's, and over 11 million provide their unpaid care. The cost of caring for those with Alzheimer's and other dementias is estimated to total $321 billion just this year in 2022, increasing to nearly $1 trillion (in today's dollars) by mid-century. Many families are struggling to juggle caring for aging parents, while caring for their own families. Friday, July 22 - Understanding Alzheimer's & Dementia-Alzheimer's disease is not a normal part of aging. Join us to learn about the impact of Alzheimer's; the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia; stages and risk factors; current research and treatments available for some symptoms; and Alzheimer's Association resources. Friday, August 5 - Dementia Conversations-Learn tips for breaking the ice to address some of the most common issues that are difficult to discuss; going to the doctor for a diagnosis or medical treatment, deciding when to stop driving, and making legal and financial plans for future care. Friday, August 19 - Effective Communication Strategies -Learn how to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
