U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan and her fellow New Hampshire Democrats refused to comment Wednesday on new reports the Biden administration has shipped at least five million barrels of oil from America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) out of the country. Among the recipients of “strategic’ U.S. oil are China and India, who are both still buying oil from the Putin regime waging war in Ukraine. “More than 5 million barrels of oil that were part of a historic U.S. emergency reserves release to lower domestic fuel prices were exported to Europe and Asia last month, even as U.S. gasoline and diesel prices hit record highs,” Reuters reports. According to Reuters, “The export of crude and fuel is blunting the impact of the moves by U.S. President Joe Biden to lower record pump prices.” Nearly half a million barrels shipped from an SPR facility in Texas to Trieste, Italy, for example, then went on to central Europe. “Cargoes of SPR crude were also headed to the Netherlands and to a Reliance refinery in India, an industry source said. A third cargo headed to China, another source said,” according to Reuters. Meanwhile, America’s emergency oil reserves are approaching a 40-year low, even as market watchers warn global supplies may be short for at least another year. Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), chair of the Republican Study Committee, denounced the move. “President Biden drained our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to dangerously low levels just so that we could turn around and send 5,000,000 barrels of oil to Europe and Asia? America Last Presidency!” The news comes just days after Biden publicly accused local gas station owners — many of them small businesses owned by immigrants and people of color — of price gouging at the pump. “Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you’re paying for the product. And do it now,” Biden told them. And what about sending millions of barrels abroad? China received 1 million barrel of oil. Last year, an attorney for Hunter Biden told The New York Times that Hunter “no longer holds any interest, directly or indirectly, in either BHR or Skaneateles.” As recently as March, records in China’s National Credit Information Publicity System showed that Skaneateles still retained its 10% stake in BHR. Business records in Washington, D.C., still listed Hunter as the sole owner of Skaneateles at the time. It is not clear whether the Chinese records were accurate or needed to be updated. The revelation about the March sale to Sinopec has already began sparking calls for investigation. Daniel Turner, the executive director of the energy advocate group Power The Future, said that the March deal warrants investigation. “The Biden Administration sent critical resources to the communist Chinese, including one firm which has the president’s own son Hunter as an investor, at the same time Americans are struggling at the pump,” Turner said in a statement. “A special prosecutor should be appointed and Congress needs to investigate because the American people deserve the truth and they’re not getting it from the White House.
