Come join local bonsai artist Gilbert Cantu in the first ever Beer & Bonsai Workshop in Corpus Christi. The workshop is hosted at Nueces Brewing and Barbecuing so you know the beer is going to be cold and fresh! This is a unique event you don’t want to miss! You will learn the basic skills and techniques behind the art of bonsai and enjoy a beer while doing it. You'll learn how to pot, trim and maintain your new bonsai tree in our hot South Texas climate. Beginners welcome! Once you arrive, you'll get to choose a tree. The species: Portulacaria afra (Dwarf Jade) thrives in heat and humidity so you don't have to worry about your tree dying. It's a great species for both beginners and advanced students. Gilbert will walk you through step by step on how to remove the tree from it's current pot, trim the roots, plant the tree in it's new pot and tie it down. Then he will show you how to properly trim your tree to build ramification and create a dense canopy of growth. He is a member of the Corpus Christi Bonsai Club and has a passion for art, bonsai and taking care of our planet.
