STARTING THE RIGHT WAY with Lawrence Sassau
This morning workshop with award-winning band director Lawrence Sassau (Lafayette Public Schools) is open to all Middle & High School Band Directors, and will focus on starting your beginning students on the mouthpiece ONLY. The clinician will give the Dos and Don’ts of setting the correct embouchure for every instrument. ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING A FLUTE, CLARINET/WITH REED, and MOUTHPIECES ONLY to the following instruments: ALTO SAX/WITH REED, TRUMPET, HORN, BARITONE/TROMBONE, and TUBA.

DEVELOPING GOOD TONE QUALITY IN YOUR BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND HIGH SCHOOL BAND with Dr. Quincy C. Hilliard
This afternoon workshop with renowned composer & music professor Dr. Quincy Hilliard (University of LA-Lafayette) will focus on a systematic approach to developing good tone quality and intonation in your band program. A handout will be given that will include exercises to develop tone quality. ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING THEIR MAJOR INSTRUMENT.
Please register in advance. A light breakfast and lunch will be served. All participants are encouraged to bring materials to take notes, and they are also encouraged to record segments or all of the workshops. Participants will receive a binder full of PD materials and free sheet music, as well as a Letter of Participation for PD credits.
