LIVERMORE, CA — Livermorium Plaza opened to the public this month. The park is a symbol of the relationship between the city of Livermore and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where the Livermorium element was created. The public can visit the park at at 116 S. Livermore St., at the corner of First Street and Livermore Avenue. A small groundbreaking was held earlier this week to mark the park's opening. Former Mayor John Marchand and LLNL Director Dr. William Goldstein were among those who attended the small gathering, while wearing face coverings and maintaining social distancing, according to a news release from the city. The city "is a better place because of what our labs do," Marchand said in the news release. Livermore is one of two U.S. cities that have an element named after them. Berkeley is the other. Find Livermorium on the lower right-hand corner of the periodic table of elements.
