Additional information on labor comfort measures: Comfort measures that provide natural pain relief can be very effective during labor and childbirth. There are a variety of comfort measures you can use to manage the discomfort you may experience during labor. Birthing techniques such as hydrotherapy, hypnobirthing, patterned breathing, relaxation, and visualization are all techniques to bring comfort to your birthing experience. . Comfort measures do not involve the use of medications for pain relief. They allow you to have a better sense of control and there is no risk for you or your baby. It’s important to explore a variety of comfort measures prior to your labor and birth to determine what you like and what might work best for you. Involving your partner or other support persons in practicing these comfort measures will ensure that they too are familiar with how they can help the laboring person.
