Press release from the City of Huntsville: July 5, 2022 Registered voters in three districts will cast votes for Huntsville City Council and Huntsville City Schools Board of Education in an upcoming municipal election. At the June 28 filing deadline, 18 candidates qualified to run – nine for council positions and nine for school board. The election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 23. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Only voters who live in districts 2, 3 and 4 are eligible to cast ballots. Absentee voters have until Aug. 16 to apply for an absentee ballot by mail and ballots must be received seven days prior to the election. Aug. 18 is the last day for a voter to apply for a regular absentee ballot in person and it must be received five days prior to the election. If a candidate fails to secure 50% of the vote, a runoff will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20.
