Please help. I didn’t know this when I bought her but Dachshunds have been deliberately bred to have a severe deformity called chondrodysplasia (dwarfed legs, long back) which guarantee orthopedic problems are inevitable. My vet told me, of all breeds, they are at the highest risk for intervertebral disk disease, which causes pain, lameness and eventual total hindquarter paralysis. Cataracts, an eye disease also common in Dachshuds, was diagnosed during her first yearly exam, but her vision is still OK. She is only 4 years old. Now I’m facing a $5,200 vet bill for hemilaminectomy surgery to correct the chondrodysplasia which I cannot afford. Will rehome for $50 to some caring individual in a position to provide her this much needed surgery.
